-=> ProFont is now fully compatable with the Macintosh SE & ][! <=-
Introduction
-----------
To programmers, being able to read what you see on the screen is VERY important—just one misplaced symbol can be the difference between a successful compilation and a frustrating editing session. Unfortunately, there are no Macintosh fonts designed expressly for programming. In most Macintosh fonts, the symbols are small, there is no way to tell the difference between a zero and an ‘O’ on the screen, and the “1”, “I”, and “l” characters are almost identical. Not good.
About ProFont
-------------
ProFont is a font created to be the most readable font for programming. It has slashed zero’s, distinct punctuation, larger parentheses and brackets, distinct one’s, “l’s,” and “I’s,” and specially shaped text characters for readability.
ProFont is actually a modified Monaco, so you still maintain the correct size font for printing Draft prints (no spacing problems will occur) so you can print out quick and dirty source code listings when you are looking for that damn bug!
Using ProFont
-------------
To install ProFont, simply choose Install ProFont… from the FILE menu. A window will appear on the screen advising you that ProFont is being installed, and if all goes well a dialog box will soon appear stating that ProFont was successfully installed.
To use ProFont, simply select it from the FONT menu of any application.
Note that ProFont is installed only in the current System file (so you may wish to run ProFont from several of your disks to install it on them) and you will only be using ProFont when you start up from a disk on which you installed it.
If for any reason you wish to remove ProFont from one of your disks, simply choose Remove ProFont from the FILE menu and ProFont will be removed from your disk.
Miscellaneous
-------------
If you’d like to see what ProFont looks like, choose Sample ProFont from the FILE menu. A window showing the features of ProFont will appear so that you can get an idea what ProFont looks like before you install it.
Included in ProFont’s File menu is the command “Transfer”. This menu choice allows you to run another program immediately, rather than quitting to the Finder. After you choose this command, a dialog box will appear listing the applications on your disks. Simply click on an application’s name and then click on the Transfer button and you will be transfered to that application.
Registration
------------
ProFont is being distributed on the ShareWare system. This entitles you to review ProFont before paying for it; try it out and see if you feel it is a worthy addition to your software library. If you choose to keep ProFont, you are on your honor to send in the $8 registration fee and become a registered user. Otherwise you must destroy all of your copies of ProFont (or better yet, give them to your friends). You are at a real advantage in that you can use ProFont before you decide if you want to purchase it—please don’t take advantage of that privilege. Considerable time was spent developing and perfecting ProFont and sending in your registration fee will insure the development of many more high–quality, inexpensive programs.
Thanks
-------
Thank you to everyone who supports the Utopian concept of ShareWare. You do make a difference.
My special thanks go to all the users of M-BBS, for giving bug reports and suggestions which made ProFont what it is. Thanks guys.
